Rubella Immunity Test (Rubella IgG)
We perform this test routinely at the beginning of pregnancy because it is important to confirm that the woman has immunity against it. If the result is elevated, we hope that neither the woman nor the laboratory staff will panic, because this means that she is immune and protected against infection.
If a woman becomes infected with rubella in the first trimester of pregnancy, this may lead to miscarriage and may cause certain congenital abnormalities in the fetus.
We advise the non-immune woman to receive the vaccine after delivery.
