During pregnancy, smoking exposes the pregnant woman to many harmful chemicals. These chemicals limit the baby’s oxygen supply and the delivery of nutrients, and also expose the baby to many health problems during pregnancy and after birth, including: problems with the placenta, low birth weight, premature birth, some pregnancy abnormalities, pregnancy loss, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Therefore, we advise women to stop smoking immediately once they know they are pregnant, and even before planning pregnancy, in order to avoid its negative effects and to preserve their health and the health of the fetus.
